The Westchester Cinema Club, the first cinema club in America to screen full-length, first-run films prior to their public release, was founded in 1980 in the Scarsdale Fine Arts Cinema by Beth Kochen and Marilyn Ackerman. Their innovative idea was to bring high quality films to Westchester before their official opening in the USA, so that an audience could see them "before the critics had a chance to make up their minds for them."List of films from previous seasons are shown on the following pages.
During the Fall Series in Hawthorne, films are screened on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. After pastry and coffee between 9 and 10 AM, the film is introduced by our host and moderatorDavid Schwartz. The film is shown and after a short break, is followed by an invited guest speaker and a discussion with the audience. The club members are then invited to evaluate the film on a comment card.
The Westchester Cinema Club has a Facebook page. Join us there!
